"Lupita"
This
is the tragic story of Lupita who was 24 years old when we met her.
She never knew her real father and when she was 8 years old, her mother
got involved with the third man in her life. Four years later when Lupita
was then 12, that same man started to sexually abuse her. Since her
mother had made the decision to look the other way, the abuse continued.
By the time
Lupita was 16, she had become pregnant from that monster, who also made
Lupita´s mother pregnant 3 times. Lupita had a little girl, but
her mother didn´t
seem to appreciate the "competition" anymore, so she left
with her 3 sons that she had from a previous relationship. By then Lupita
was 17 and now she had
her own daughter to take care of plus her 3 sisters that her mother
had with the monster.
Since she never had anyone to protect her or to teach her right from
wrong, the monster was able to convince Lupita that it would be better
for her to stay with him. So she did, and during the next 7 years through
many physical beatings, Lupita got pregnant 3 more times, having 2 more
daughters and a son.
Finally in May of 2002, Lupita couldn´t take it anymore, and the
monster left with Lupita´s son who is now almost 5 years old.
We met Lupita on
September 29th 2002 and at that time she was basically homeless, living
with her 3 daughters and 3 sisters in a single room made in part of
some cheap
pieces of wood and cardboard boxes. Six days afterwards we placed them
all in a house where they can live in dignity by having everything that
they
need at their disposal, and equally important, in a place where the
monster cannot find them. His latest plan was to convince Lupita´s
eldest sister, who was only 13 years old, to live with him. Lupita has
the willpower to work, but we feel that she is more needed at home with
those 6 little girls whose ages
vary from almost 2 years to 14 years. They need the presence of an adult
all the times so they can be protected and supervised.
Amazingly, Lupita doesn´t seem to have any anger and it is very
impressive to see her serenity. For the future she wants to take care
of her big family and to
make sure that those 6 little girls won´t have to live through
what she endured. To provide Lupita and the 6 little girls with all
they need, we are looking for 30
persons who can give $200 pesos ($20 US) each month or 60 persons who
can give 100 pesos ($10 US) each month.
Roxana de la Cruz Ramírez

Roxana is 39 years old and she has been blind since birth. She has a 9 year old son, Manuel, but the father of this child is sick, being mentally ill. In the last 2 years his illness has deteriorated and as a result, he started to physically abuse Roxana, raping her in front of their son whenever he would feel like having sex or beating her up when a given situation would not go his way.
In reality her husband is not a bad person, but his illness was putting Roxana´s life in danger. Obviously she was extremely traumatized by her situation with him, but she didn´t have any other alternatives to provide for her needs such as
food, housing and basic living necessities. We met Roxana on January 22nd 2002 and the next day we arranged for her and her son to live in a safe place where her sick husband could not find them. Since that day weve also beentaking care of all their basic needs. To be able to continue providing this support, we are looking for 15 people who could donate 200 pesos ($20 US) or 30 who could donate 100 pesos ($10 US) each month.
Martha Segundo Segundo

Martha is 35 years old and 4 years ago she suffered an accident that left her paralysed. Since that day she'd been living with her 16 year old daughter, moving from one place to another, until the people that lived in those houses would get fed up with helping them. That situation was hard for her dignity because in reality she had the will power to go forward in life, as an example of that, on the day of the accident she was paralysed from the chest down and the doctors were saying that she would remain like that for the rest of her life. But Martha did't feel the same way and with a lot of effort through her physical theraphy, she is now only paralysed from the knees down.
That by itself is like a miracle because the doctors still cannot explain her partial recovery.
We met Martha on June 22, 2002 and we were so impressed with her courage that we provided her with a place where she could live in dignity with her daughter without having to be concerned about the hostility of the people like those who helped her in the past.To provide them with housing, food, etc.. we are looking for 15 people who could donate 200 pesos a month or 30 who could donate 100 pesos in the same frecuency.
Reyna Angeles Apolinar
This is a good example of where poverty can lead people, combined with the lack of help from the Mexican government. Eight years ago, Reyna fell from a donkey, injuring her back. Because she didnt have any money she was not able to have medical assistance. Three years later she met her husband Carlos, and even though she couldnt walk for many years, he took her as a wife and he started to carry her on his back. On June 17th 2003, we met Carlos and Reyna for the first time as he carried her on his back while walking down the malecon. We discovered that Carlos had been doing this for the past 5 years, and that they were living in a one room apartment with no furniture with their 3 year old daughter and that they all slept on the floor.
The following day our association cared for them with much needed medical assistance, and 4 days later we placed them in a furnished apartment where they can live with dignity. Now that Reyna can walk on her own with the help of something that she can hold onto, Carlos will be able to go to work and earn money for his family, and provide them with food, clothes and basic necessities.
The association will be helping by providing them with a place to live. To continue providing this assistance, we are looking for 5 people who could donate $200pesos ($20 U.S.) per month.Carlos Domínguez Galicia, Reyna Angeles Apolinar,

Lucio Vazquez López
Until December 2nd 2002, this family of 4 had a normal life, but on that day around 3 oclock while 6 year old Tania was still in school, their apartment exploded because of a gas leak. Lucio who is 25 years old, his wife Marisol who is 24 and their son Cristian who is 2 were burned in the 3rd degree on 50% of
their bodies. They have been hospitalized for many months and the IMSS has been covering for most of the costs, but there is still important medical care needed and that isnt covered. Recently, after a lot of procedures that
required all kinds of paper work, they received from different big associations, donations from $1,000 pesos to $2,000 pesos. Less than 24 hours later we
met them, they received from us $5,000 pesos, and we also made the commitment to give them $1,000 pesos in each following month for helping them cover their medical bills.
We are looking for 5 people who could donate $200 pesos ($20 U.S.) per month.
